INDIA NEPAL OIL PIPELINE
Pipeline construction is done by India Oil Corporation with Nepal Oil Corporation, and it is operational from 10 September 2019 in between India and Nepal, India spent ₹324 crore in this project, its construction time is 15 month and it has an annual capacity of 2 million metric tonnes.
Funding of the project is $45 million is provided by India as a gift for Nepal, this project give freedom to Nepal to import petroleum product at lower cost.
Advantage of this oil pipeline
This project is major beneficial to Nepal, Nepal is a land locked country so they have no coastal area in this situation Nepal is dependent on India for petroleum, Nepal import petroleum from India with help of trucks but cost of truck transportation is high and it effect the cost of petroleum, some other problem is natural disaster it will stop transportation.
Nepal consumes approx 2.66 million tonnes of oil and approx 480000 tonnes of cooking gas, with this pipeline Nepal save about $8.7 million per year in transportation cost of fuel.
This pipeline is reduce a region of pollution due to trucks emission and also it is cost efficient project.
according to the report of world bank connectivity between south Asian countries is very bad, in this report they say Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh are the very disconnected countries connectivity of highways, railway lines, cross country petroleum pipeline is very limited or none.
